Who we are
UNBOWED LTD (company number 17484210, registered in England and Wales), whose registered office is at 37 Manor Road, Cobham, Gravesend, England, DA13 9BW, decides how the information in this notice is used. In data protection terms, we are the "controller".
Contact us about anything in this notice at [email protected].
What this notice covers
This notice covers three things:
- this website
- the free landlord register check
- the emails we send to people who ask to hear from us
It also explains how referrals will work when paid plans open.
When the UNBOWED platform opens for paying customers, it will hold property, tenancy and tax records. We'll publish a fuller notice covering that before anyone signs up.
The register check: your answers stay with you
The check runs entirely in your browser. Your answers, your readiness score, your results and the income band you choose aren't sent to us unless you choose to start an UNBOWED account and save them to it. Otherwise they stay on your device, and they're gone when you close or reset the page, unless you copy or print them.
If you start an account, what you save is covered by our platform privacy notice, which you'll see before you sign up.
What we collect if you ask to hear from us
If you fill in the "Tell me when it opens" form and press the button, we receive:
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your first name | To address emails to you |
| Your email address | To email you when the register opens in your region, and with the updates you agreed to |
| Your region | The register opens region by region. This is how we know when to tell you |
| Your number of properties (a range) | To keep what we send relevant to the size of your portfolio |
| The date and time, and the consent wording you agreed to | Our record that you gave permission |
| Which page you signed up on | So we know which parts of the site are useful |
Don't send us property addresses, tenant details, tenancy agreements, certificates or any other documents. The form doesn't ask for them, and we don't need them.
We don't collect special category data. We don't build profiles about you. We make no automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Our lawful basis
- Emailing you: your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations). You give it by ticking the box, which is never pre-ticked. You can withdraw it at any time.
- Keeping a record of your consent and of unsubscribes: our legitimate interests in proving we had permission, and in not emailing you again after you've said no (Article 6(1)(f)).
How we use it
We use your details to:
- tell you when the register opens in your region
- send occasional updates on the register and Making Tax Digital, including when UNBOWED opens
- understand, in total and never individually, which regions and portfolio sizes are signing up
We don't sell your information. We don't share it with letting agents, insurers, brokers or anyone else for their marketing. If that ever changes, we'll ask you first, not quietly update this page.
Referrals ("Share the load")
When paid plans open, each customer gets a personal link to share. This is how it works:
- If you join through someone's link:
- We record which link you used, so we can give you your free first month and credit the person who shared it.
- We tell them only that a referral has qualified and a free month has been credited.
- We don't share your name, your properties or anything you enter.
- If you share your link:
- You share it yourself.
- We never email or contact the people you share it with. They hear from us only if they sign up.
- We keep a record of the credits you've earned, as part of our accounting records.
- Lawful basis: performing the referral terms you agreed to (Article 6(1)(b)).
Who else handles your information
Two providers process data for us, under contract and only on our instructions:
| Provider | What they do |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts this website, receives the form and passes it to our mailing list, and counts visits. The visit count uses no cookies and doesn't identify you or follow you across sites |
| Brevo | Stores our mailing list and sends the emails. It stores the list in the EU |
Your details may pass through the US. Cloudflare is a US company. Brevo stores our list in the EU, but some of the companies it uses, such as those running its network and its customer support, are in the US.
Where your details leave the UK, they're protected by safeguards in each provider's data processing agreement:
- Cloudflare: the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the UK extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
- Brevo: standard contractual clauses with extra security measures, and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where it applies.
Cookies
This site doesn't use cookies for tracking, advertising or analytics, so there's no cookie banner. Our fonts are hosted on this site, so no font service sees your visit.
How long we keep it
We keep your details for 24 months from the last time you were in touch with us: opening one of our emails, signing up again or replying to us. After that we delete them.
If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete your details, we do so promptly. We keep only your email address on a suppression list, so we don't email you again by mistake.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can:
- get a copy of what we hold about you
- correct anything that's wrong
- have it deleted
- object to, or restrict, how we use it
- take it elsewhere in a portable format
- withdraw consent at any time. There's an unsubscribe link in every email, or just tell us
Email [email protected] to use any of these. We'll reply within one month. There's no charge, and you don't have to give a reason.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We'd rather you told us first, so we can put it right.
Keeping it secure
Your details are held in our providers' systems, protected by access controls and encrypted in transit. As few people as possible can see them. If a breach puts you at risk, we'll tell the ICO within 72 hours, and tell you directly where the law requires it.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your information in any significant way, we'll update this page and email everyone on our list before the change takes effect.
